A few days after the world celebrated International Women’s Day, attendees from the East and West Coast and beyond gathered at the sprawling Convene conference spaces in downtown New York to pick up where they left off three years earlier at the first AGBU Women Shaping the World (WSTW) event.

Creative Armenia and the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) have just announced the ten recipients of the 2023 Creative Armenia-AGBU Fellowships. As always, the fifth wave of the Fellowships will empower powerful new voices in film, music, literature, the visual arts and beyond with funding, mentorship, and career support – but this year with a special emphasis on Artsakh-related projects. 

"Being Armenian is not about having a surname ending in – yan or – ian; it’s about living as an Armenian and defending our religion, culture, and values."

In light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Artsakh – with Azerbaijan’s blockade of the Lachin Corridor creating a deepening food, health, and humanitarian crisis for the 120,000 Armenians now trapped in the republic – the producers of Invisible Republic have made the film available digitally in every territory of the world.

"AGBU is resolved to begin a new chapter in problem-solving, preparedness, and meaningful programming to make a positive and constructive difference within the framework of our mission – all with the clear-eyed recognition that we do live in uncertain times."

Since December 12th, 2022, Azerbaijan has blocked the Goris-Stepanakert road, which is the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia. As a result, 120,000 people have been isolated from the rest of the world

After two years of virtual screenings, eager film enthusiasts around the globe joined AGBU’s creative young artists for in-person showings and discussions of the past, present, and future of Armenian independent films.
