    Welcome to AGBU Innovation Studios! A project-based learning atmosphere where cutting-edge technology and innovation converges with Armenian culture.

    Imagine designing your own musical instrument, bringing architecture to life, delving into the world of robotics and AI and animating a favorite Armenian story with friends in a supportive and inviting environment.



    We are proud to foster the development of engaged and solution-oriented youth through a creative curriculum which encourages teens and tweens to be active creators of their identity and culture. Students are motivated to explore their interests and develop projects from concept/ideation to design and production. Final products are featured in comprehensive student portfolios for showcasing to peers and to schools and university applications (other academic and professional audiences).

    IS Transitopia

    Engineering/Robotics: Transitopia

    In Transitopia, students will be constructing sci-fi and futuristic vehicles of their imagination while learning about renewable energy systems such as solar, hydro and wind power. They will imagine the systems and infrastructure that will change the way vehicles move, how they are designed, and who they will transport, and then prototype new modes of transportation with motors, controllers, batteries and gears.

    SKILLS - Engineering, Design, Physics, Programming, 3D Modeling, Sensors & Actuators.

    Design/Architecture: Monumental Reimagining

    In Monumental Reimagining, students will delve into the rich tapestry of historical monuments and their role in shaping cultural narratives. Exploring the complexities of the history that their town’s monuments represent, students will grapple with the controversies surrounding these structures. Tasked with creating a sculptural monument for their community, students will highlight untold stories and values, choosing between interactive or observational designs for their town's newest landmark.

    Studio: Living Architecture

    Project: A Traveler's Hut

    Description: The "Traveler's Hut" from the Living Architecture Studio nestles in the forest, harnessing energy through a horizontal windmill for off-the-grid living, while its walls showcase adaptations of traditional Armenian carpet patterns. Inspired by Filippo Brunelleschi's renowned dome of Santa Maria del Fiore, the hut reimagines this architectural marvel as a skeletal dome structure. The project distinguishes itself with its wall designs, featuring a blend of standardized motifs and unique interpretations of Armenian artistry.

    Materials used: Laser Cut plywood; 3D printed parts; cardboard; natural rocks

    Studio: BioRobotics

    Project: Goat Climbing Shoe

    Description: The "Goat Climbing Shoe" from the Bio Robotics studio is designed to enhance the safety and enjoyment of climbers, drawing inspiration from the remarkable functionality of wild goat hooves. This innovative footwear integrates the biomechanical adaptations of goat hooves, offering climbers improved grip and stability. The project aims to transfer the agile climbing ability of wild goats to human adventurers through advanced shoe technology.

    Fun Fact about Nyra: Nyra was one of the first high schoolers to join our program at age 16, where she found her true calling thanks to our Living Architecture studio. Her newfound interest has now led her to pursue a career in architecture. She's now coming full circle, applying to join AGBU Innovation Studios as a student intern.

    Studio: Deep Sea Bots

    Project: Ocean Cleaning Whale

    Description: The "Ocean Cleaning Whale" project, from the Deep-Sea Bots/BioRobotics studio, takes its inspiration from the orca whale. This robotic innovation, designed in the likeness of the majestic sea creature, patrols aquatic environments to gather trash and purify the water of contaminants. It serves as a mobile cleaning system, combining form and function to address water pollution in pools and various water bodies.

    Materials used: Laser-cut plywood (multiple layers); Arduino sensors

    This program is super cool because we get to make our own ideas actually happen. We don't just get told what to do - we have coaches that help us out. It's all about coming up with our own cool stuff and then making it real!

    General Information
    If my child is not into science and technology, can he/she benefit from this program?

    Absolutely! AGBU Innovation Studios is not limited to science and technology enthusiasts. Our focus is on developing solution-oriented individuals by immersing them in the design thinking process. This program is about the journey, not just the destination. While we do teach specific technical skills, we also ignite creativity and foster interest in various industries. Your child will explore, innovate, and discover their unique path.

    Will this program be beneficial during college admissions?

    All participants build comprehensive portfolios showcasing their work from inception to completion. These portfolios are valuable assets when applying to colleges or internships. Additionally, students have exclusive access to industry professionals and events, further enhancing their college applications and future opportunities.

    What opportunities are available for students who complete multiple studios?

    Students who successfully complete three or more studios may be invited to take part in special projects, gaining hands-on experience. Internship opportunities as well as entrepreneurial courses may also become available, providing a real-world taste of their chosen field.

    How does the program integrate Armenian culture?

    Armenian culture is seamlessly woven into the curriculum. While we expose students to the latest in STEAM education and design thinking, we also incorporate elements of Armenian culture. This can be through projects that explore Armenian architecture, music, or other cultural facets. Our approach ensures that students connect with their Armenian heritage in a meaningful and contemporary way. We give voice to their ability and interest to create their own Armenian culture/identity.

    How do I coach?
    • Coaches commit to a 10-week teaching cycle, dedicating 3-5 hours weekly. During this time, they are involved in delivering studio-specific topics, providing hands-on guidance, and offering mentorship to foster student growth and innovation.
    • Coaches at AGBU Innovation Studios play a pivotal role in fostering a creative and collaborative makerspace environment. They are responsible for guiding students through their design thinking process, helping them to harness and develop their creative abilities.
    • Beyond coaching, our professionals have the opportunity to serve as guest speakers. This role involves sharing their specialized knowledge through guest lectures or short seminars, further broadening the educational horizons of our students.
