    Women Entrepreneurs

    Building businesses from passions

    Aiming to empower and encourage female business owners in Armenia and Artsakh, AGBU Women Entrepreneurs (AGBU WE) develops the potential of micro-enterprise or small business owners offering an array of tools, resources and practical experiences. The comprehensive program helps entrepreneurs across the region better understand the essence and features of their business and find ways to maximize their success.

    The highly competitive AGBU WE, part of the AGBU EmpowerHer initiative, offers women looking to start up or scale up a micro-enterprise or small business with a full cycle of support, including coursework in entrepreneurism and financial management, business marketing, mentorships, courses on local tax legislation, mini-grants and English language coaching. In addition, AGBU WE provides extensive post-program follow up, counseling and alumni engagement, ensuring the creation of a true network of women supporting women.

    A Full Cycle of Support

    Launching or scaling up a business in today's world means being ready for the continually changing landscape facing local entrepreneurs in Armenia. AGBU WE offers a 360 degree cycle of support to educate and empower women to develop strong business plans with the agility to pivot as needed and lean in to the network of EmpowerHer alumni and supporters around the world. Unique features of the program include:

    • Workplace fundamentals training
    • Leadership skill building
    • Specialized courses including marketing and business financials
    • Industry-specific seminars and specialized courses in marketing
    • Networking opportunities
    • Access to diaspora-based business mentors
    • English language coaching
    • Mini-grant competitions and funding opportunities
    • Post-Program follow up and counseling

    Get Involved

    The women of Armenia and Artsakh are ready to take the lead in their businesses and communities. Volunteer as an ANI Language Coach through weekly virtual sessions or offer your expertise as a Business Mentor. Your engagement helps ensure their success. Of course, you can also support by giving financially to this donor-driven program and other facets of AGBU EmpowerHer.

    Applications for New Cohort

    A new cohort of potential and current business-owners will have the chance to join the growing network of AGBU WE this summer. Applications will open in June.

    AGBU WE participant Anush Saroyan was featured on Aravot Luyso's "My Business" series. Through the business skills she obtained, Anush has opened her own fashion house in Gyumri. Watch the success stories of our beneficiaries.

    WE expansion

    AGBU WE Expands to Regions

    AGBU Women Entrepreneurs program expanded to other regions across Armenia! In addition to Yerevan, program courses are now being organized in areas around Gavar, Dilijan, and Gyumri. Recently, six groups took place in a business pitch battle contest, where 29 participants received grants from AGBU to further advance their ventures.

    Partnership with UNDP

    AGBU WE in partnership with UNDP’s Women’s Economic Empowerment in South Causauses Phase II project aimed to support women from Yerevan, Gegharkunik, and Shirak regions. 170 women received upskilling or reskilling trainings for obtaining better employment skills, 15 of which received better employment opportunities. In addition, 68 women entrepreneurs learnt how to run their businesses effectively.

    Forty AGBU WE participants showcased their products at the 'Big Christmas Market' in Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex Yerevan from December 23-27, 2022 offering important visibility for their diverse businesses.
