On Sunday, April 18, 2010, residents of the New York Armenian Home in Flushing, Queens, were treated to a “Spring Concert” organized by the AGBU Young Professionals of Greater New York (YPGNY), featuring the talents of young Armenian pianists Karine Poghosyan and Nairi Badal. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, Poghosyan began her musical studies in her native Yerevan, studying at the Romanos Melikian Music College and Komitas State Conservatory. A student at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris, Badal is currently in New York as part of the Conservatory Exchange Program at the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester. Residents enjoyed a repertoire featuring selections from Mozart, Chopin, Khachaturian, and Schumann. Finding joy in giving, the Spring Concert is YPGNY’s latest gift to the residents of the Armenian Home. Additional projects include “Sunshine for Seniors,” an annual talent show held in collaboration with the participants of the AGBU New York Summer Intern Program, and “YPs Give Back,” a day of community service at the Home.
