YP Plovdiv Partners with Bulgarian State Youth and Sports Agency in "Youth Leadership" Seminar

Twenty eager young people, including four Armenians, gathered for a "Youth Leadership" seminar co-sponsored by the State Youth and Sports Agency in the picturesque valley of the Rhodopi mountains in Bulgaria. The three-day event, from July 13 through July 15, 2007, was part of a four-seminar series entitled “Intercultural Dialogue and Interaction among Young People from Various Communities in Plovdiv.”

The AGBU Young Professionals (YP) of Plovdiv partnered on the project and sent four Armenian participants, Onnik Tarakchiyan, Aneta Zumrutyan, Rafael Khachatrian, and Alice Kyurkchiyan. The 16 other participants were from youth organizations in Plovdiv, Bulgaria’s second largest city after Sofia.

Experienced psychologists, Vanya Pavlova and Zina Popova, conducted the seminar that emphasized leadership skills with a side of fun and informality. The goal of the program was for young leaders to gain self-confidence and better directional skills. Students were also encouraged to learn more about themselves and their leadership potential.

To achieve this task, the two women set up a variety of real-life situational simulations that included experience and skill development in logical reasoning, creativity, team work, the thrill of success, accuracy and swiftness. Seminar participants also focused on the importance of charm, creativity, tolerance, knowledge, persuasion and open-mindedness found in great leaders.

In the end, positive energy filled the seminar’s atmosphere for three days and new friendships were formed. Participants are looking forward to the next event in this series and are eager to see even more Armenian YP leadership participation.
