AGBU's Young Professionals (YP) of Philadelphia closed out the summer and entered the fall with three successful events. In August, YP Philly hosted its annual after-work networking event at Positano Coast in Old City, Philadelphia. The evening, entitled "Coast in the City," was co-chaired by Meredith Avakian and Jacqueline Santerian. It marked the introduction of the new executive board, which includes Chairwoman Meredith Avakian, Vice-Chair Julie Paretchan, Treasurer Nubar Dailerian, Secretary Gina Terkanian, and Publicist Colette Seter.
On October 4, 2010, YP Philly members, along with other Armenian youth organization leaders, met with Marie L. Yovanovitch, the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia, as part of a series of roundtable leadership meetings in Conshohocken, PA. "It was an honor to meet with Ambassador Yovanovitch during her first visit to Philadelphia and hear about the U.S. role in Armenia, as well as share our personal involvement in the Armenian community," said committee members Julie Paretchan and Colette Seter. Other YP members include Vicken Bazarbasian, George Diloyan, Gina Ekmekjian, Tina Hagopian, and Paul Sookiasian. Committee members Diana and Garen Boghosian, Antranig Garibian, Linda Huverserian, Stephen Jones, Berje Shammassian, and Talinn Toorian recently moved on to pursue other professional and personal endeavors outside of Philadelphia.
In addition to representing YP Philly for the Ambassador's visit, Avakian and Paretchan attended AGBU's General Assembly October 13 – 17 in Buenos Aires. Over 200 Armenians gathered from around the world for the event, which included 25 youth representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Lebanon, Egypt, and the United States. They participated in various leadership meetings as well as touring, events, and galas.
YP Philly closed out their fall events with the celebration of the first annual "HYE-lloween" at Laurel Hill in East Falls, Philadelphia. The event was co-chaired by Julie Paretchan and Paul Sookiasian. "The YP Philly committee thought an exclusive tour and reception at one of our city's most unique historic landmarks would be the perfect way to get into the HYE-lloween spirit. It wasn't the typical kind of event we hold so we were excited to take advantage of the opportunity," said Sookiasian.
"It's an absolute honor and joy to lead such a well-rounded and enthusiastic group of young professionals," said YP Philly Chairwoman Avakian of her fellow members. "With various backgrounds, each committee member brings something different to the organization. Together, we will continue to help preserve Armenian culture, with a particular focus on youth and education." The officers and committee meet monthly to plan social, professional, cultural and community service events. YP Philly is proud that its events attract a cross-section of people from the five Armenian churches and various other organizations throughout the Greater Philadelphia area and the Northeast. As always, event proceeds are directed to the chapter's charitable endeavors and support future Philly YP events.
