Weekend events raised funds for YP Environmental Project in Khachik, Armenia

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Nearly 300 Armenian young professionals from across the country descended on San Francisco, California, February 5-7, 2010, for the 11th annual AGBU YP Northern California (YP NC) Winter Gala, "Toast to the Good Life." The benefit weekend of networking events raised funds for the new global AGBU YP Environmental Project to build a park in the Armenian border village of Khachik. AGBU YP Northern California was the first chapter within the worldwide AGBU YP Network to adopt the charity.

The weekend started with a mixer on Friday night at ROE Lounge in San Francisco's South of Market district, where guests could choose from two floors of dance music. The historic Green Room at the Herbst Theatre and War Memorial was the stunning venue for the signature gala on Saturday night. Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church, provided an inspiring opening prayer and welcome, while AGBU Central Board Director and Bay Area resident Yervant Zorian presented the AGBU Armenian Virtual College to the YPs gathered. YPs dined and danced to the sounds of the Khatchig Jingirian Ensemble, and later, DJ Raffy.

Closing out the weekend in San Francisco style, guests enjoyed a brunch on Sunday at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in Union Square. AGBU YPNC is proud to continue the gala tradition and looks to grow the event each year, using proceeds to benefit charities in the Republic of Armenia.

About the AGBU YP Environmental Project:

The AGBU YP Environmental Project, designed and implemented by the worldwide Young Professionals Network, will create a park in Khachik, Armenia, a border village several hours from Yerevan. The new green space will provide a beautiful environment for residents to enjoy and also serve as a site where they may sell produce without middlemen. Border villages are vulnerable in the region, and it is AGBU's intent to reinforce Khachik in part to ensure the sovereignty of Armenia's border. For more information visit: www.agbu.org/ypsgogreen.
