The AGBU Young Professionals of Greater New York (YPGNY) kicked off 2013 with its most popular fundraiser - the 12th annual Silent Auction & Cocktail Party – raising $19,000 for AGBU’s Children’s Centers in the Nork, Arapkir, and Malatya regions of Yerevan. The sold out affair, held at Solo at the Setai, a contemporary event space in the heart of Manhattan’s Financial District, attracted over 250 young professionals from across the United States. Guests danced to beats mixed by Greg “DJ GLO” Stepanian and sipped signature cocktails curated by YPs from Detroit, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New Jersey, and New York. Encouraged to tip the drinks stirred by their favorite city, this novel party feature not only generated enjoyment for guests’ palettes, but additional contributions for the Centers in Armenia.
Impressive gifts, luxury items and services, donated by leading business and generous individuals, offered something for everyone – from fashion and sports, to dining and entertainment. Among the most coveted pieces available for auction were original works of art made by the children of the AGBU Children’s Centers that highlighted their creative skills and role in perpetuating the artistic heritage of Armenia.
Making a global commitment to support the Centers, YPGNY established the AGBU YP Endowment in 2002 for their benefit. Now a pan-YP endeavor, the Greater New York group makes its share of the global contribution through monies raised at the Silent Auction event, as well as from the annual HALO (Helping Armenia’s Little Ones) campaign. Suitable for recipients of all ages, this holiday card fundraiser spreads Christmas cheer to mailboxes worldwide. Donations made in honor of another loves one, family, or friends are transformed into personalized gift cards by YPGNY’s group of Santa’s helpers. Together with YPGNY’s 2013 donation, the AGBU YP Endowment now totals over $185,000.
