On October 3, around 50 young professionals gathered in Amsterdam for SPEAK UP, AGBU’s first public speaking event. Guests shared their passion for public speaking and heard the motivational life stories of seven fellow YPs over the course of the evening.

The goal of AGBU SPEAK UP was to give Armenian young professionals the chance to practice the art of public speaking, talk about their life stories and help the YPs network in a unique way. “There was a lot of positive energy in the room and the audience was paying attention to every single word uttered by the speakers. The first thing the audience asked after the event was: When are you guys organizing the next SPEAK UP?” said YP Amsterdam committee member Antranik Ayvazyan.

The umbrella theme for the evening was “My Life at Home Away from Home.” The speakers had nine minutes to tell their stories. The speeches were followed by a Q&A session, where the audience members were invited to reflect on the talks. The speakers included people from different professional backgrounds, including law, politics, marketing and IT. The topics varied from innovative marketing to the impact of globalization on Armenians.

The next AGBU SPEAK UP event will take place next winter. YP Amsterdam hopes to bring the event to a Pan-European level, holding the talks in different cities and inviting speakers from various countries.
