Youth from Detroit, Montreal and Toronto Compete During Victoria Day Weekend

The Victoria Day long-weekend was a busy one at the AGBU Center in Toronto. Weekend activities kicked off on Friday, May 18, 2012, with two basketball games between the AGBU Toronto and Montreal teams, followed by a fun social event. The tournament continued the next day and Sunday, as visiting athletes from Montreal and Detroit exhibited great sportsmanship and offered spectators many nail-biting moments. The gym was packed with happy faces both young and old, creating a great opportunity for old friends from different cities to reconnect.

The tournament saw a variety of competition between many different age groups. Divisions included Pee Wee Boys & Girls (12 and under), Bantam Boys & Girls (Ages 13-15), Junior Boys & Girls (Ages 16-18), Senior Men (19+) and Veteran Men (35+). AGBU Montreal took home the trophy for the Junior Boys division while AGBU Toronto won the Pee Wee Boys & Girls, Bantam Boys, Bantam Girls, Junior Girls, Senior Men & Veteran Men divisions.

The Sports & Youth Committee (SYC) would like to thank all visiting and local athletes, coaches and parents who joined together for a successful tournament weekend, as well as all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the event such a memorable one. The SYC is already looking forward to making next year’s gathering even bigger!
