On January 14, 2011, AGBU’s Young Professionals (YP) of Philadelphia kicked off the New Year with their "January Jingle." Fifty young professionals, including visitors from New York, gathered for a private mixer at Jon's Bar and Grill, an Armenian-owned-and-operated restaurant, which is a staple on Philadelphia’s famous South Street.

Gina Terkanian and Gina Ekmekjian, serving as co-chairs, provided guests with Mediterranean appetizers and Armenian and Middle-Eastern music to set the ambiance. A portion of the proceeds from the event has been donated to AGBU Children's Centers, continuing YP Philly's commitment to charitable endeavors involving youth and education. Terkanian said, "The event was a success and we were excited to see a lot of new faces! These events wouldn't be possible without the continuous support of our local community."

"January Jingle" marks just the beginning for YP Philly events this year. Committee Chair Meredith Avakian stated, "We plan to build on our momentum of last year's success and double the number of events in 2011. The chapter will continue to look for new and creative ways to preserve Armenian culture while focusing on youth and education. This year, we also plan on partnering with other Armenian organizations to advance the breadth and depth of how we can better serve our community. It's an exciting time to be involved with YP Philly!"

In keeping with this goal, YP Philly is proud to announce its February event in collaboration with Birthright Armenia Philadelphia Alumni. Young professionals aged 21 and over are invited to "I LOVE Armenia," a happy-hour mixer with a twist. The event is on Thursday, February 17, from 5:30-9:00 p.m. at Plays and Players Theater and Bar (1714 Delancey Street). The evening will serve as a platform for people to share stories and creative works from their travel and volunteer experiences in Armenia and provide information for how others can make the most of their visits to Armenia. The event is being chaired by Karina Ambartsoumian and Colette Seter, who is a liaison with the Birthright Armenia alumni committee.

YP Philadelphia officers and committee meet monthly to plan social, professional, cultural, and community-service events. Committee members include Karina Ambartsoumian, Meredith Avakian, Vicken Bazarbasian, Nubar Dailerian, Gina Ekmekjian, Tina Hagopian, Julie Paretchan, Jackie Santerian, Colette Seter, Paul Sookiasian, and Gina Terkanian. YP Philly is proud its events attract a cross-section of people from the five Armenian churches and various Armenian organizations throughout the Greater Philadelphia area and the Northeastern United States.
