On Saturday, May 8, 2010, approximately twenty young professionals joined the AGBU Young Professionals of Los Angeles (YPLA) to help clean up Dockweiler Beach in Playa del Rey, located in Los Angeles County. The event was organized in partnership with Heal the Bay, an environmental nonprofit organization that is focused on cleaning Southern California Beaches (www.healthebay.org). The volunteers picked up trash as well as recyclable materials.

The Beach Clean-Up activity was YPLA's second volunteer event of the year. The volunteers also included a couple of pairs of AGBU Generation Next Mentorship Program Mentors and Mentees. Event organizer Angela Karaguezian said, "Our volunteers are pleased that YPLA is organizing events that provide an opportunity to give back to the Southern California community. This event was especially important as it was the first YPLA partnership with a non-Armenian non-profit organization."

YPLA is the Los Angeles Chapter of the AGBU Young Professionals -- a growing network of individuals, between the ages of 22 and 40, who individually and collectively mirror AGBU's mission to preserve and promote Armenian identity and heritage by adding dimensions to the lives of young professional Armenians through educational, cultural, social, and humanitarian programs. YPLA organizes monthly activities, including social-networking and professional career-building events, signature weekend getaways, hiking and camping trips, international video-conferences, service-oriented activities targeted towards Armenian youth, benefit events, and casual get-togethers, where up to 250 young Armenians can come together to exchange ideas and get to know each other better. YPLA is always looking for individuals who would like to volunteer their time either as a board member or on an event-by-event basis.
