International Internships, Camps and Excursions to Armenia Offer Something for All Armenian Youth

As winter winds down around much of the world, Armenian youth everywhere can look forward to a summer making lifelong friends and memories with AGBU. Applications are now being accepted for a range of AGBU summer programs that offer something for every age and interest.

Exciting Internships in Moscow & Yerevan (ages 19-26)

While school is out of session this June through August, the AGBU Summer Internship Program will ensure that university students continue to learn – about their career paths, their international peers and a new city. Applications are already rolling in for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live and work in Moscow (MSIP) or Yerevan (YSIP). For years, the AGBU Internship Program has positioned high-achieving students to be competitive candidates in the job market come graduation. Interns experience the pulse of each capital while working in leading institutions, networking with key industry leaders, volunteering for local community projects and taking weekly language and dances classes. The added bonus of country-wide excursions makes for a complete cultural immersion experience; students in Armenia connect with their roots through tours of ancient landmarks and a special trip to Nagorno-Karabakh, while Moscow interns make the memorable 4-day journey to St. Petersburg.

Applications for both MSIP and YSIP are due on Friday, March 15, 2013.

Combine Music Classes with a Trip to Armenia (ages 18+)

For emerging musicians, Armenia’s famous concert halls are calling. Launched last summer, AGBU’s Musical Armenia Program (MAP) brings rising talents from across the globe to Yerevan to discover the country’s rich musical history and train with professionals. Through master classes, lectures and concerts, students both create and enjoy music that continues to inspire them long after they’ve left Armenia. MAP participants mark the end of their three-week program by performing in a grand finale concert at the renowned Aram Khachaturian Museum Hall, but not before seeing Armenia’s historic landmarks. Applications are due on Friday, May 31, 2013.

Apply now at  www.agbu.org/musicalarmenia or email musicalarmenia@agbu.org.

Armenia Trip for Teenagers to “Discover” the Homeland & Its Beauty (ages 15-18)

Many of the sites on MAP’s itinerary are also destinations for AGBU’s Discover Armenia Program, which is now in its 10th year. For the past decade, the program has created an unforgettable experience for adventurous teens. Caravanning from the vibrant capital city through scenic villages, Discover Armenia allows high school students to explore every corner of the country, including Lake Sevan, and the highest peaks of Mt. Aragats. Volunteer projects, for which students may receive community service credit at their schools, cultivate a strong sense of responsibility toward the homeland and form an unbreakable bond between the diasporan youth and Armenia.

FOCUS Returns – This Time to San Francisco (21+ only)

This year, FOCUS, a biennial affair that convenes in different global cities, will take San Francisco by storm. For four days, participants will share their international perspectives, network, sightsee and join in cultural, professional and social events benefiting the AGBU Generation Next Mentorship Program, based in Southern California.

Camp Nubar: Where Summers Last a Lifetime (ages 8-15/16+ for counselors)

At the same time, over on the east coast, in New York’s scenic Catskill Mountains, the youngest members of the AGBU family will be celebrating an important birthday: Camp Nubar’s 50th. For five decades, campers and counselors have enjoyed the vast 365 acres of forest and a private, spring-fed lake that the grounds encompass. Hiking, horseback riding, swimming, boating and fishing are just some of their favorite daily activities. Other longstanding programs, such as dance and arts and crafts with visiting instructors from Yerevan, sports, Armenian language classes and the traditional Color War have made Camp Nubar a second home for youth from across North America and beyond. Last year, Camp Nubar welcomed campers from as far as Armenia, France, Germany and Turkey. They’re among just some of the many hundreds who are counting down to another summer of magic.

For an early application discount of $100, the deadline is Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

To register, visit www.campnubar.org or email campnubar@campnubar.org.

A Chance to Spend 3 Weeks in the French Alps (ages 7-15)

Camp Nubar is one of eleven overnight and day camps that AGBU administers worldwide. Another popular camp includes Colonie de Vacances, which is situated in the spectacular Bonnevaux region of southeastern France, home to whitewater rapids that campers raft down and charming villages that they visit. The program is filled to capacity every year.
