AGBU New York Summer Internship Program (NYSIP) interns had the opportunity to spend the afternoon with the program’s Co-Chair Raffi Balian at the AGBU Central Office in New York City on June 29, 2013.

Balian spoke of his parents, Rita and the late Vartkess Balian, and the journey they took in 1987 to establish the endeavor that now boasts well over 800 alumni worldwide. The Balian family’s dedication to AGBU was very inspiring for the interns, who then discussed with him the importance of maintaining the Armenian heritage through outreach programs, such as NYSIP.

As the afternoon progressed, Balian and the interns delved further into humanitarian and cultural issues surrounding present day Armenia and how the global diaspora could have a positive impact.

Balian concluded the discussion by reminding the interns for the importance of appreciating the opportunities that AGBU had provided them through NYSIP and to take full advantage of their time spent in New York.
