New York-Based Writer Needed

AGBU Central Office is currently seeking a full-time staff writer. Interested individuals may email their resume to tjebejian@agbu.org.

A description of responsibilities and requirements is below:

Title: AGBU Staff Writer
Joint reporting to: Director of Digital Media and Publications
Director of the Press Office

Position Summary:
The Staff Writer will produce written materials for AGBU internal and external audiences, including but not limited to AGBU.org and all supporting websites, press releases, blogs, reports, letters and marketing materials, as necessary. The focus is on informing members and the general public as to AGBU’s diverse activities, and promoting the organization globally and locally.

The Staff Writer will collaborate and coordinate with all departments and program officers, as well as with offices globally, as needed. Required are excellent written communication skills, as well as strong oral communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Draft press releases and blog entries, coordinating content and background research with relevant Central Office staff or contacts at district/chapter level
  • Proactively develop story ideas based on daily informal discussions with program officers and Central Office staff, as well as new and established relationships with AGBU entities
  • Provide content, usually on a daily basis, for AGBU.org and all supporting websites
  • Participate in regular meetings with press office staff, as well as broader Central Office staff meetings
  • Provide writing and research support to the publication of AGBU News
  • Assist with content – both solicitation and editing – for Ararat Magazine
  • Attend events and functions as needed, including possible travel

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, Wordpress, social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, Tumblr)
  • Excellent proofreading and copyediting skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Strong oral communications and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in teams and small groups with diverse cultures and personalities
  • Well-organized with multi-tasking capability to manage multiple projects to deadline
  • Must show initiative and be a self-starter
  • Strong follow-through to ensure timeliness and accuracy of published information
  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends during busy times and special events

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2-5 year writing and related experience; experience in public relations is a plus
  • U.S. citizenship or residency
  • New York-area based
