New AGBU Vahe Karapetian Center Hosts Diasporan Youth in Yerevan

AGBU’s Armenia-based youth programs aim to foster deep relations between participants through various projects and initiatives. This summer was a turning point for participants, as summer youth programs were centralized in one location in Yerevan. A new center, made possible by benefactor Vahe Karapetian, offered youth and young adults the comfort of a residence and a wide range of services.
The AGBU Vahe Karapetian Center comfortably accommodated over 100 visitors and functioned as a dormitory as well as a venue for cultural and social events. It allowed for exciting cross-cultural exchange, creating an even more unified network of diasporan peers. Hayk Arsenyan, the director of the AGBU’s Performing Arts Department, took note of the great benefit of the Karapetian Center for cultivating cohesion among participants: “Having an AGBU residence hall is extremely important for an organization such as AGBU that holds several youth programs simultaneously, because all of these young people with different backgrounds, interests, views, and even schedules stay all together under one roof and create one big community.”
From the new center, participants in Discover Armenia, the Yerevan Summer Internship Program (YSIP), and the Musical Armenia Program (MAP) were able to commute easily to downtown Yerevan and to travel across the country. The center officially opened its doors on June 21, 2014 to welcome the YSIP interns. MAP artists joined them on July 14 until both programs ended at the beginning of August. For three weeks in August, the Discover Armenia group was also able to enjoy the new facilities.
