Mount Everest Climber Ara Khatchadourian visits AGBU Armenia

On August 11, AGBU Armenia hosted Ara Khatchadourian, the Marseille-based AGBU Yervant Demirjian School alumnus who ascended Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, in memory of the centennial of the Armenian Genocide. The event, held at AGBU Yerevan Hall, brought together young scouts and professional alpinists, as well as participants of the AGBU Discover Armenia program. After screening a short film about his climb, Khatchadourian shared with the audience his experience climbing and his life story as a migrant from Lebanon who successfully combines work in the jewelry business with ideology-driven alpinism.
Conquering the ambitious height of 8848m on May 22, 2016, Ara Khatchadourian raised the flags of Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh, France, and Lebanon, and dedicated his victory to the unity of all Armenians around the world. Among other institutional symbols of clubs and organizations, Khatchadourian waved the AGBU flag in recognition of the patriotic spirit, leadership and determination he developed while a scout at AGBU camps in Lebanon.
Ara Khatchadourian received a Certificate of Gratitude from the Prime Minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan and will also receive the Diaspora Ministry’s Gold Medal for his dedication to the promotion of the Armenian cause.
Ara Khatchadourian has conquered eight of the world’s highest summits: Mont Blanc in France- 4807m (2007); Mount Ararat in Turkey- 5137m (2011); Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania - 5896m (2012); Mount Cotopaxi in Ecuador - 5897m (2013); Mount Sajama in Bolivia - 6542m (2013); Mount Huascaran in Peru - 6655m (2013); Lenin Peak in Kyrgyzstan - 7134m (2016); and Mount Everest in Nepal - 8848m (2016).
