Montreal Scouts Celebrate a Decade of Service

Montreal - This year marks the 10th anniversary of the rebirth of the scouting movement at AGBU Montreal. This special occasion was highlighted on Saturday, May 8, with a formal dinner-dance in the Jirair and Elise Dervishian Hall of the AGBU Montreal Center.
The sold-out event was attended by close to 200 community members and friends. They enjoyed a meal catered by P.B. Banquet, and dinner was followed by a full program of dancing and music. The evening's performers were Nerces Adourian and Hye Band.
Several dignitaries attended the anniversary event, including His Eminence Bishop Bagrat Galstanyan, Primate of the Armenian Holy Apostolic Church Canadian Diocese; Father Vazken Boyajian, pastor of St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Cathedral, and Armen and Herminé Bechakjian, chairman of AGBU Montreal and his lovely wife. Also in attendance were the "Commissaires aux regroupements" from the Scouts du Montréal Métropolitain (SMM), Robert Phillipi and Guy Gauthier. The SMM presented the AGBU Montreal scout troop with a plaque in honor of its 10th anniversary.
The entrance hall was decorated with several pictures reminding everyone of fun-filled times during the course of the last decade of scouting. There was also a huge banner bearing the names of past and present leaders and volunteers that reminded everyone of the crucial role played by volunteers in the success of the AGBU scouting movement.
The event was organized as a fundraiser for the Venturers' 2010 Mission to Armenia; as part of the fundraising efforts, many members of the local community made substantial donations to this very worthwhile project which sends AGBU Montreal scouts to Armenia for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
