In Memoriam: Edouard Jakhian

It is with deep sorrow that we inform our members of the passing of Edouard Jakhian on May 21, 2013 in Brussels, Belgium. He was 78 years old. Jakhian served as a member of the AGBU Central Board of Directors from 1996 to 2004. He was the Honorary President of the Armenian Community of Belgium, President of the Association for the Armenian Church in Belgium and Former President of the Nubar Pacha Foundation. He was also the President of the Bernheim Foundation and President of the Bar Association of Brussels. As legal counsel for the Belgian government, for over twenty years he defended the interests of Belgium before the European Convention on Human Rights in Starsbourg Court.
He will be remembered as a devoted member of the AGBU Central Board and one of the most prominent members of the Armenian community in Belgium, as well as a relentless and eloquent advocate of the Armenian cause.
He is survived by his wife Sylvie and his two children Grégoire and Isabelle.
