Forty students from ten Armenian schools in Lebanon took part in the Interschool Recitation and Drawing Competition organized by Khosnag Monthly, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Arstakh.
The halls of the AGBU-AYA Cultural Center in Beirut were filled with the enthusiasm of the talented youngsters, who took part in an earnest yet friendly competition between the students from the AGBU L. G. Nazarian School, H. and M. Arslanian Jemaran, Vahan Tekeyan School, Roupinian School, the Armenian Evangelical Central School, Armenian Evangelical College, Armenian Evangelical Torossian School, Armenian Catholic Mesrobian School, Armenian Catholic Kevork Hayrabedian School and B. Garmirian School.
The juries were composed of recognized authorities in the field, including artists and educators. Participants were warmly welcomed by Khosnag Editorial Board Member Angel Misisian, who in her opening remarks stressed the importance of such competitions to promote the Armenian language.
In the category of recitation for fifth graders, the jury awarded the first prize to Letisa Hekimian, a fifth grader at Mesrobian School. The top honor for six graders went to another Mesrobian student, Gassia Jenian.
In the drawing contest, H. and M. Arslanian Jemaran fifth grade student Hrant Kalemkerian took the first prize. The sixth graders’ champion in this category was Vahan Tekeyan School’s Mario Saboundjian.
Khosnag Editor Hampig Mardirossian delivered the closing remarks, thanking the ten participating schools’ principals, their language and arts teachers, commending them for their noble mission, and had words of gratitude for the juries. “There are no victors and vanquished today, every participant is a winner,” he said. “We are still here today and we will continue on the path of our claims, with you as its standard bearers,” Mardirossian said, addressing the students. Gifts were distributed to all participating students.
