July 3, 2010 marked the beginning of the eighth student exchange between AGBU Marie Manoogian Institute in Buenos Aires, Argentina and AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School in Canoga Park, California. Through the ongoing Student Exchange Program, a group of ten Manoogian-Demirdjian high school students and their chaperon Houry Khechoumian traveled to Argentina, where they stayed until July 21 to participate with ten other Marie Manoogian students in academic, cultural, and recreational activities.
During their three-week visit, the students attended various classes at the AGBU Marie Manoogian Institute. They took lessons in Spanish from Elena Achdjian, Armenian art from Violeta Symonian, and Armenian computation from Tshjo Guludjian.
The students also had the opportunity to explore Argentinean culture through group outings in the city and countryside. They visited the famous Boca Stadium and Santa Susana Ranch, where they watched a country show and rode horses, and they attended the interactive performance "Fuerza Bruta" ("Brute Force"), among other activities.
Argentinean-Armenian families in the Buenos Aires area welcomed the visiting students into their homes and hearts, providing them with the unforgettable experience of living in an Armenian household in a different part of the world.
Created in 2000 by Miriam Bogossian Tabakian, Marie Manoogian Institute's English Department coordinator, and Carol Aslanian, AGBU Central Board member, the Student Exchange Program serves AGBU's aim of uniting and educating Armenian youth throughout the world.
AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School in Canoga Park, California, and AGBU Marie Manoogian Institute in Buenos Aires, Argentina, are two of AGBU's leading Armenian day schools and together offer instruction to over 1,300 students.
