Following its 27th summer, the AGBU New York Summer Internship Program (NYSIP) announces a transition in the management of the program.  After eight years as Associate Director, Michael Hovsepian will be moving on to pursue other professional interests. The Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) is grateful to Michael for his dedicated service to NYSIP and for overseeing the 250 interns who have participated in the program since 2007.  Assuming the position will be Christina Lalama, who will serve as the 11th Program Associate in NYSIP’s 27-year history.

The Executive Director of AGBU Programs, Anita Anserian, commented: “Michael has had a profound impact on the lives of our interns and the success of NYSIP, and we greatly value his contribution.  We wish him every success as he moves forward in a new professional direction.  We welcome Christina Lalama to the AGBU team and look forward to having her on board.”

Hovsepian commented: "The eight years I have spent guiding the participants of the AGBU New York Summer Internship Program make up some of the happiest memories of my life.  It has been deeply fulfilling having such a strong impact on the lives of so many Armenian youth throughout the world.  It’s sad leaving my AGBU family, and my second home at the AGBU Central Office, but the time has come to pass the torch."

As an alumna of Camp Nubar, Christina Lalama is not new to AGBU. Most recently, she served as program associate for the MBA program at Bard College and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pace University in New York City.

The New York Summer Internship Program (NYSIP) enjoyed another successful season. Thirty-three university students from Armenia, Brazil, Canada, France, Lebanon, Romania, Syria, the United Kingdom and the United States spent eight weeks gaining invaluable experience in fields such as finance, law, marketing, medicine and political science.  The interns also learned about AGBU, made lifelong friendships and participated in an array of educational, cultural, professional and social programs.

The New York Summer Internship Program was founded in 1987 by Rita and Vartkess Balian under the auspices of the AGBU President’s Club.  NYSIP quickly established itself as the flagship AGBU program for Armenian students throughout the world.  Its success prompted programs to be founded in Los Angeles (4 years), Paris (10+ years), Yerevan (10+ years), and Moscow (5+ years). The program has benefited many of its alumni who have risen to the top of their fields.

AGBU is now accepting applications for NYSIP 2015. The deadline is December 1, 2014. To learn more, please visit www.agbu-internship.org or email nysip@agbu.org
