On June 19, 2010, AGBU Armenian Youth Association Sofia (AYA Sofia) and Young Professionals of Sofia (YP Sofia) joined efforts to host the Mediterranean BBQ Night benefit dinner for AGBU Camp Unger 2010. Held at the Armenian Center of Sofia, the event attracted over 70 guests and raised $1,775 for the summer camp.
Besides the impressive turnout and funds raised, the benefit dinner also created a sense of belonging and excitement among attendees, proving that coming together to give back to the community can produce remarkable results.
AYA and YP members worked diligently to make the night memorable. The event, which was originally slated to take place outdoors in the newly renovated yard of the Armenian Center, was moved indoors because of the weather conditions. The organizers transformed the Armenian Center into a ship with an overarching nautical theme, incorporating hammocks, fishing nets, anchors, and shells into the décor.
For the past seven years, AGBU Sofia members have been working hard to make the annual Camp Unger a reality for the Armenian youth of the region. As a result of their diligence in keeping the tradition alive, the children's camp ranks as one of AGBU Sofia's most successful programs.
Camp Unger 2010 took place in September in the scenic mountains of Bulgaria. Like other AGBU summer camps taking place in other parts of the world, it provides a setting where the Armenian youth can build lifelong friendships, learn about their culture and heritage, and participate in games, sports, and arts.
