Energy Efficient Facilities Will Incorporate Cutting Edge Green Technologies
Architectural renderings of the brand new AGBU center in Yerevan have just been released, offering an exciting preview of the state-of-the-art building slated to open its doors by the end of the year. The highly anticipated center will serve as the headquarters of the AGBU Armenia Representation Office and allow for the expansion of AGBU’s cultural, educational and humanitarian programs across the country.
Construction is well underway for the five story complex, which will incorporate the latest green technologies. Spanning over 70,000 square feet, it will be equipped with environmentally friendly features including thermal insulation and customized solar panels. With glass covering 70% of its exterior, the center will receive plenty of natural light—and generate an estimated 10 kilowatts of electricity. Once complete, it will house offices, conference and exhibition halls, a restaurant, as well as underground parking and a rooftop café.
While the center’s sustainable facilities represent the wave of the future, additional designs pay homage to the past. The façade will replicate that of the old Yerevan Municipality Duma (Council) building, which stood from 1906-2000. Stones salvaged from that site will be on display in the center, along with archives from AGBU’s 100-plus year history. Armenian carpet motifs will decorate the elevator shaft walls, bringing traditional elements together with the modern.
AGBU Central Board member Vasken Yacoubian, who heads the construction committee, remarked on the progress: “It is a true pleasure to watch this development come to life. What began three years ago as an idea has quickly transformed into a large-scale project that is already exceeding our expectations. We believe this AGBU center will be a hub of activity in downtown Yerevan that will also help strengthen Armenia-diaspora ties. We look forward to inaugurating it in just a few short months.”
The forthcoming AGBU Yerevan center is made possible by the generous donation of AGBU Council of Trustees member Nazar Nazarian and his wife Artemis and the support of several individuals and groups including AGBU Central Board member Aris Atamian, the building’s architectural advisor; Narek Sargsyan Architectural Studio; Storaket Architectural Studio; and Horizon-95, Connect, MLL Industries and CBS construction companies.
