AGBU Young Professionals and AGBU Silicon Valley hosts Armenia’s President-elect at Synopsys Headquarters

On March 16, 2018, the AGBU Young Professionals of Northern California and AGBU Silicon Valley held a special information technology (IT) forum with Armen Sarkissian, who was later sworn in as President of the Republic of Armenia on April 9. The town hall event took place at the Synopsys headquarters in Mountain View, California.
Yervant Zorian, an AGBU Central Board member and Chief Architect at Synopsys as well as President of Synopsis Armenia, served as the moderator. He began the dialogue by expressing that the IT community in the Silicon Valley, where innovation and entrepreneurship intersect, cares deeply about prospects for high-tech development in Armenia.
“Silicon Valley has a lot to offer. With an open channel of communication with Armen Sarkissian and the state, we can achieve a lot more. This IT forum is just a start. Continuing this dialogue can help improve the technology sector in Armenia and improve the education that goes hand in hand with it,” said Zorian.
Armen Sarkissian made brief remarks and opened the dialogue to the attendees, members of the Silicon Valley industry. Sarkissian stressed the importance of Armenia as a hub for new technology and the importance of building upon the country's professional development in a competitive market. A wide range of issues was discussed, including education, science, health, good governance and repatriation.
For young professionals and the Armenian community, the forum presented a unique opportunity to explore how Armenia’s engagement with Silicon Valley is a conduit for opening channels of collaboration and joint enterprises.
Sarkissian expressed his commitment to advocate for Armenia and assured the audience that he will return in the Fall to follow up on the progress made and next steps toward a promising future.
