Another 13 came from Armenia, in addition to teams from the neighboring Republic of Nagorno Karabakh and the Javakhk province of Georgia.

The aim of the national championship is to promote a love of chess among students and identify talented young people who can grow to be future champions in the sport, continuing Armenia's role as a serious contender in world chess competitions.

Yerevan School #55 won first place. School #190 came in second, and School #135 won third prize. AGBU awarded computers to the seven most successful teams, including the three winning teams. Financial awards of 200,000 ($522), 150,000 ($391) and 100,000 ($261) Armenian drams were granted to the winners by the Zangezour Copper and Molybdenum Factory -– the sponsor of the final phase of the tournament. The winner on an individual score basis, Hovaness Gabuzian, received a financial award of 60,000 AMD ($157). Other awards included the gift of 2000 chess sets and 150 chess clocks to Armenian teams in the competition from AGBU.
