AGBU Montreal Committee Member Named President of Montreal City Council

Harout Chitilian, member of Montreal city council for the city's Bordeaux-Cartierville district, was recently appointed President of City Council by Mayor Gérald Tremblay. "Harout Chitilian is clearly the right person to guide the Council in its work. I am certain that he will achieve a consensus among his colleagues and stand out for his sense of fairness and his ability to bring people together. Once named, Mr. Chitilian will become the youngest President in the history of Montreal's City Council. This appointment shows Montrealers that our Administration is placing great emphasis on the succession," said Montreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay. Chitilian, an alumnus of the AGBU Armen Québec-Alex Manoogian School and member of the Montreal Chapter Executive Committee, was elected City Councillor of Ahuntsic-Cartierville on November 1, 2009. He is now the Executive Committee’s Associate Councillor for Youth and Economic Development. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Conférence régionale des Élus de Montréal and of his borough’s Corporation de Développement économique et communautaire. Moreover, he sits on the Board of MR3 Relève. Before turning to politics, Chitilian, who is an engineer by training, served as a specialized consultant for several multinational firms in fields of telecommunications and information technologies.
