The Alumni Games 2015 was the first in the school’s nearly 40-year history and included basketball, soccer and volleyball competitions.

On June 19 and 20, the AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School (MDS) welcomed over 100 alumni back to the school for a weekend of sports, school spirit and reminiscing. Sponsored by the MDS Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and the MDS Alumni Association, the Alumni Games 2015 was the first in the school’s nearly 40-year history and included basketball, soccer and volleyball competitions with alumni from the Class of ’87 to the Class of ’15 and everywhere in between.

In anticipation of the event, the MDS Alumni Association mobilized social media with #titansgotgame and #titansreunited to create an exciting atmosphere for athletes and spectators alike. Teni Halburian, member of the Class of '97 and MDS’s director of communications, added: “Seeing so many familiar faces returning to the school to support the Alumni Games was surreal. I was re-living playing basketball in the same gym I had played almost 25 years ago. This time around, I had my husband, a former AGBU MDS student, and our two children who attend AGBU MDS, cheering for me. I was experiencing the full circle of the AGBU MDS ecosystem at work.”

“The Alumni Games represent the true power of an AGBU school and reflect the attachment that alumni feel not only to their fellow graduates, but also to their alma mater. These events further cultivate the community-feel that our schools generate in the hearts and minds of our former students. The AGBU MDS administration should be commended for organizing such a successful program that strengthens the network of our alumni and exposes our graduates to their school,” said Raffi Svadjian, president of the MDS Alumni Association.

As a MDS parent and PTO chairperson for the past 14 years, it brings me great pleasure to see our school’s alumni and current student come together. As parents, our mission is to establish a relationship with the MDS Alumni Association to create a partnership and embrace a rich history that supports a lifelong passion for learning,” said Aline Patatian.

The AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School was founded in 1976 with 19 students and three teachers and has grown into a K-12 complex in Canoga Park, California with a total yearly enrollment of 700 students. Graduates have enrolled in all University of California campuses, private and public universities in California and other states, and Ivy League schools like Harvard University, Brown University, Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania. 2014-2015 marks the school’s 39th academic year, continuing to chart new grounds in academics, sports, the visual and performing arts, technology and extra-curricular activities to serve the developmental and educational needs of Armenian youth in a caring, quality and safe environment.

MDS looks forward to many more alumni games to come!
