AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School Announces Marie Stuart as New Vice Principal of its Elementary School

On Tuesday, August 14, 2012, the Board of Trustees and the administration of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Manoogian-Demirdjian School (MDS) in Canoga Park, California, announced the appointment of Ms. Marie Stuart as the new vice principal of the elementary division. In her new capacity, Ms. Stuart will oversee kindergarten through fifth grade.

Ms. Marie Stuart has spent over 30 years of her professional career as an educator. Her background includes teaching and administrative experience ranging from elementary to high school. Ms. Stuart has also served as a Director at the San Gabriel Unified School District. For the past five years, Ms. Stuart has acted as the Assistant Superintendent/Principal for Bullis Charter School in Los Altos (K-8), where she was well respected by students, staff, parents and colleagues as an administrator.

Ms. Marie Stuart received her Bachelor of Arts Degree and Teaching Credential from Southwest Texas State University, with a focus in Drama and English. She holds a Masters of Arts Degree from the University of Texas, where she specialized in English as a Second Language/Bi-lingual/Bi-Cultural Studies. She also earned Education Administration Credentials from Azusa Pacific University and California State University, Los Angeles. Ms. Stuart is a dynamic leader and an active member of the community who has mentored teachers and initiated a long – and growing – list of innovative programs for students. They include project-based learning, peer-counseling, and the character pillar program. She has also directed school plays, speech and debate teams, mock trials and history day at the various schools in which she has worked.

Ms. Stuart has expressed her enthusiasm for joining the AGBU School, stating, “I am very pleased to have the opportunity to work with the students and staff of AGBU MDS, and I look forward to a positive and productive experience at this exceptional school." Her excitement is shared by the school"s faculty and principal, Mr. Hagopian, who remarked, “I am pleased to welcome Ms. Marie Stuart as the new vice principal for AGBU MDS" Elementary division. She is collaborative, experienced, and enthusiastic to explore new ideas and practices in improving the teaching strategies, as well as the learning process at AGBU."

The AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School began in 1976 as St. Peter-AGBU Day School with an enrollment of 19 pupils and a staff of three teachers.
