Event to Take Place March 21-22

Administrators and Armenian subject teachers from four AGBU North America schools will meet at the AGBU Alex and Marie Manoogian Charter School in Southfield Michigan, on March 21 and 22, 2014 for a forum on Armenian education.

During the two day forum, the teachers and administrators will visit classes in session, exchange observations and experiences and share syllabi, teaching strategies and resources. During a conference session on Saturday, March 21st, the participants will present and discuss topics related to curriculum content, teaching models, methodologies and resources that have evolved over the recent years to meet the needs and expectations of the new generation of students and parents.

In addition, the educators will review criteria that measure the effectiveness of the schools in serving AGBU’s mission of preserving and promoting the Armenian identity and heritage through educational, cultural and humanitarian programs. The forum will explore the applicability of these methodologies and resources to non-traditional school settings or non-Armenian/public school environments, to reach out to a wider circle of school age children. The forum will also tackle topics related to teacher exchanges between AGBU schools, teacher preparation and qualifications, and creative job opportunities that allow for the transition of teaching skills and content knowledge to different settings.

Each of the four AGBU schools that will be represented at the forum collaborates with the AGBU Virtual College, using its technology, online courses, tutorials, and expanding resources. During the forum, the participants will become better acquainted with AVC’s new offerings. These include AVC’s recently introduced free chess course and quarterly multimedia e-books that just launched to provide interactive information on a variety of topics related to Armenian history and culture.

The AGBU North America Schools participating in the forum are the AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School, Canoga Park, Californai; the AGBU Vatche & Tamar Manoukian Pasadena High School, California; the AGBU Armen-Quebec Alex Manoogian School, Montreal, Canada; and the AGBU Alex & Marie Manoogian Charter School, Southfield, MI, which will be hosting the forum.
