With a very successful 2005 summer season behind them, the AGBU Camp Nubar Committee is already gearing up for the summer of 2006 with capital improvements that will make your head spin. With cabins, tennis courts and outdoor basketball courts recently renovated in 2003-2004, Camp Nubar is once again raising the bar to ensure its growing number of adult staff, guest instructors and campers have a state-of-the-art facility at their fingertips.

With renovations currently underway, Camp Nubar is keeping pace with its growing demand for more modern and spacious accommodations by:

  • Building a new Girls Cabin, Girls Counselor Cabin and Adult Staff Building,
  • Expanding its Director’s Cabin and Main Office, and
  • Adding a Staff Lounge.

Demonstrating a clear commitment to quality, Camp Nubar also prides itself on hiring qualified staff members each summer who work closely with the campers on various activities. Alumni and guest instructors are invited to contribute their knowledge and expertise in various areas of interest, such as waterskiing, outdoor survival and Armenian language and cooking.

In an effort to comfortably lodge Camp guests, this coming year’s instructors will be the first to experience a brand new Adult Staff Building, while counselors will enjoy the addition of a Staff Lounge where they can specifically plan their activities, lessons and special events.

With so many campers filling the existing cabins to capacity, the need for additional quarters quickly became apparent. In the works, the new Girls Cabin will become the largest on the campgrounds with space to accommodate up to forty campers. Likewise, the work on the Director’s Cabin, Main Office and new Girls Counselor Cabin will provide the staff greater capacity and more amenities, while also affording greater comfort and space for parents and children during check-in and visiting days.

With all of these exciting efforts already underway, the Camp Nubar Committee is looking forward to welcoming new and returning campers this coming year.

Members of the community are all invited to the upcoming Annual AGBU Camp Nubar Christmas Reunion on Monday, December 26, 2005 at Holy Martyrs Armenian Church, Bayside, NY, 4 to 7PM, Free admission.

Accredited by the American Camping Association and located in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of Andes, New York, AGBU Camp Nubar was founded in 1963 and continues to be a summer haven for generations of Armenian youth from all over the world.
