On November 30, AGBU Cairo’s Dziadzan Children’s Choir celebrated its tenth anniversary at the Belekdanian Hall in Heliopolis, a suburb of Cairo. The choir of 35 children dazzled the audience of nearly 150 people, who had gathered to enjoy a lively musical interpretation of Katch Nazar’s New Adventures, a folktale by famed turn-of-the-century writer Hovhannes Toumanian (1869-1923).

The success of the evening was a team effort, starting with Kohar Ghazelian, who supervised the theatrical script and acting, and Maestro Mihran Ghazelian, who served as the artistic director of the performance. The dances, which added a special flavor and charm to the evening, were choreographed by Alissa Depoyan and former choir member Vartan Terzibashian.

The evening also featured some very special guests: members of the choir from its very first year, who stopped by to join the fun.

At the end of the performance, Viken Djizmedjian, chairman of AGBU Cairo, offered a commemorative plate to Mihran and Kohar Ghazelian in appreciation of their 10-year journey with the choir.

Three cheers to all those who made the evening extra special: to the organizing committee for arranging the costumes, decorations and equipment; to Ohan Djanikian for photographing the event; and to the Goganian Club for contributing the costumes.

Happy tenth birthday to the Dziadzan Children’s Choir!
