AGBU Council of Trustees member Karnig Yacoubian and his wife Ani, who are benefactors of the Union, were present at the groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday, October 21, 2012, presided by His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, for a new candle lighting hall and Catholicoi Mausoleum within the grounds of Holy Etchmiadzin. The gathering took place following the Divine Liturgy on the last day of AGBU's 87th General Assembly in Armenia, and in the presence the organization's leadership and delegates, as well as several top-ranking clergy. Mr. & Mrs. Yacoubian have sponsored several major projects within the Armenian Church, most notably the construction of the Vaskenian Seminary on Lake Sevan. Their generosity this time is directed toward the construction of both the mausoleum and hall, which will surely be a destination point in addition to Etchmiadzin for faithful pilgrims to light a candle and offer their prayers. The structures will be located in front of the Etchmiadzin Cathedral.
