Despite new post-war realities, the people of Artsakh have lived up to their #ArtsakhStrong reputation and are eager to take on the challenges of revitalizing the indigenous lands they have cultivated for centuries. As they continue to pursue their dream to thrive as a model of sustainable self-governance, AGBU is ready to build on the progress made in the years before the war through programs that invest in human potential as the key to socio-economic growth.
We all have an important role to play in this renewed vision for Artsakh future and the AGBU Fund for Artsakh remains the most effective channel to advance new solutions that deliver hope, personal security and communal prosperity for this cherished land.
To enhance the earning potential of Artsakh’s labor force, AGBU LEAP (Learn to Earn Artsakh Program) offers professional development courses and trainings with an emphasis on public service and targeted industry jobs. Men and women of all backgrounds benefit from diaspora mentorships, English language coaching and a curriculum tailored to encourage economic growth in Artsakh. LEAP also fosters a more favorable environment for launching small and medium-size enterprises.
Many Armenian women in Artsakh shoulder a heavy burden as breadwinners and single heads of households, and AGBU offers stepping stones to lift them out of poverty on their own terms. AGBU Women Entrepreneurs (W.E.) is a free program for those seeking to start or scale up their own micro-enterprise, while AGBU Women Coders offers free training in technical and soft skills for career-bound jobs in the IT sector. These comprehensive programs provide diverse trainings, business mentorships, English language coaching, networking and more.
To preserve and nurture the unique and vibrant culture of Artsakh, once the heartbeat of cultural life in the region, AGBU strives to support local institutions that bring beauty and peace to a war-weary public through the arts. Since 2004, we have supported the Artsakh Chamber Orchestra. Its 20 virtuoso musicians have built a sterling reputation throughout the Caucasus and have filled concert halls around the world. Such successes have also paved the way for a new music school in Artsakh.
Focused on creating a more globally competitive educational landscape in Artsakh, we opened a TUMOxAGBU Center in Stepanakert in 2015. This after-school program is designed to equip as many as 1,500 young Armenians per year with the tools and resources to stretch their imaginations and enhance their critical thinking skills, preparing them as the future game-changers in Artsakh. Plans for regional expansion will extend opportunity for more Artsakh youth in the coming years.
