AGBU Exhibitions is pleased to start 2018 with “Carnet de Voyage”, a solo show of works by Marina “ANIRAMSKY” Fedorovsky (Paris, France). Carnet de Voyage, or travel notebook in French, represents the sketches, drawings, watercolors and photographs recorded over the course of Marina’s stay in Armenia since September, 2017. Whether extracts from her pocket-sized journal, or snapshots of the urban landscape taken with an analogue camera, her style is exploratory, playful, and contains elements of fantasy.
A deeply personal medium, Carnet de Voyage records moments lived (more impression than chronicle), and feelings captured at a cafe or from ANIRAMSKY’s apartment window. Her works are characterized by spontaneous “nonsense” phrases accompanied by familiar vignettes: backgammon players, the park bench, the courtyard at the Mirzoyan Library, or the interior of Artbridge Cafe. The typical Yerevan skyline, with its stacked housing units and connecting power lines, is as much a protagonist in ANIRAMSKY’s illustrations as her fictitious characters. The Lute player (or is it an Oud?) and one of her favorites, “Le Roi” (the king), are recurring motifs that suggest folklore and childlike wonder, confounding the narrative line between memento and fantasy. Above all, the works of Carnet de Voyage reflect an interior voyage as much as they do a territorial exploration.
Marina Fedorovsky came to Armenia through the Armenian Volunteer Corps.

Turkish authorities have canceled elections for the Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey effectively displacing the elected Locum Tenens-caretaker cleric or deghabagh-Archbishop Karekin Bekjdian of the Diocese of Germany. The move has drawn a fierce reaction from the Armenian community.
Dr. Ohannes Kiliçdaği will examine the government’s effort to usurp rights and erode the democratic governance of the community and its ties with the patriarchate. This is a rare opportunity to better understand challenges faced by Armenians in Turkey and their struggle to maintain institutions that are responsive and accountable to the community.
Join us and meet Dr. Ohannes Kiliçdaği, postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University’s Center for Middle Eastern Studies. He was raised in Istanbul and received his PhD from the history department of Boğaziçi University. He has taught at Istanbul’s Bilgi University. He is a columnist for Agos.
