Dr. Ümit Kurt examines liquidation laws and regulations as an important component of the Armenian Genocide. Used as incentive in the implementation of mass deportations and massacres during the Genocide, the confiscated wealth of the Armenians ultimately formed an economic cornerstone in the foundation of the Turkish Republic.

 
 
Dr. Ümit Kurt is an Assistant Professor in the School of Humanities, Creative Industry, and Social Sciences and an affiliate of the Centre for the Study of Violence at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He is the author of the award-winning book, The Armenians of Aintab: The Economics of Genocide in an Ottoman Province (Harvard University Press, 2021).
