In the latest edition of AGBU WebTalks, master oud player, musician, and composer Ara Dinkjian takes us on a nostalgic journey to uncover the roots and evolution of the distinctively Armenian-American folk music bands in the United States. During the dynamic resettlement in America over a century ago, these musicians produced a unique sound that blended “old-country” standards and American influences that cannot be found anywhere else. For those who came of age to the soundtrack of musical giants like the Vosbikians, George Mgrditchian, Richard Hagopian, Harry Minassian, Onnik Dinkjian, and Johnny Berberian, to name but a few, Dinkjian offers fascinating facts and insights about how the legacy of this golden age of Armenian-American music continues to define the Armenian identity across generations. Volunteer with AGBU's ANI Language Coaching program to help local Armenians gain a competitive edge! Success in international business often requires fluency in multiple languages. This experience increases opportunities for individuals to work in global fields and to expand their businesses to English-speaking markets. Coaches and participants meet once a week in a virtual session assisted by a suggested curriculum. By the end of the coaching cycle, mentees will have gained confidence in conversing in English, and both parties can come away with new friendships and expanded networking contacts. Earlier this month, AGBU was charged with distributing four 100 KW diesel generators to strategic locations in Armenia. The generators were initially destined for Artsakh as part of a humanitarian aid mission funded by several municipalities and regions of France and facilitated by the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations of France in partnership with UGAB France. With the agreement of all donors, AGBU took responsibility for redeploying the generators to vulnerable communities in Armenia. This would become part of AGBU’s overall crisis response plan, designed to avoid repeated dire scenarios in Artsakh in recent years. Press Release: https://lnkd.in/eSiKdvq9

AGBU Young Professional chapters worldwide have achieved a huge accomplishment in helping the displaced people of Artsakh. The "YP Cares" campaign, launched four months ago, raised over $220,000 - an enormous result from the initial $120,000 goal! A huge thank you to all who supported this campaign to benefit the AGBU Global Relief Fund and the YPs, who once again fully manifested their readiness to commit to the Armenian cause. U.S. President Joe Biden, the first president to formally recognize the Armenian Genocide, has released a statement: “Today, we pause to remember the lives lost during the Meds Yeghern—the Armenian genocide—and renew our pledge to never forget. The campaign of cruelty began on April 24, 1915, when Ottoman authorities arrested Armenian intellectuals and community leaders in Constantinople. In the days, months, and years that followed, one and a half million Armenians were deported, massacred, or marched to their deaths—leaving families forever broken, and generations forever changed.” Full Statement: https://lnkd.in/eEyp3smM
