Job Description:

The Junior Accountant will be based in New York City, reporting to the Assistant Controller. The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, focusing on cash receipts, accounts payable and disbursements, treasury functions and monthly closings. Knowledge of Sage/Intacct software helpful, but not necessary. Previous non-profit experience is preferable.

Responsibilities:

• Manage all aspects of daily bank deposits including donations and non-donation receipts
• Ensure invoices adhere to organization-wide senior management expense approval process
• Ensure vendor information is accurately reflected and updated in accounts payable system
• Review and verify invoices for discrepancies and research variances as necessary
• Charge expenses to accounts and programs by analyzing invoice/expense reports; recording entries
• Input credit card expense report for payment
• Maintain supporting documentation of the organization’s expenses, including travel and related expenditures
• Prepare cash disbursements- wire transfers, check payments, and scan and save all related documentation
• Perform month-end close close duties, e.g. journal entries, bank reconciliations, and so on
• Prepare annual form 1099 returns for independent contractors
• Assist/provide the supporting documentations and schedules for the external audit
• Assist with monthly, annual, and ad-hoc reporting requirements
• Scan and attach all back-up documentation in accounting system and accounting drive
• Perform other related duties as necessary

Requirements- Skills/Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Accounting
• Minimum 3 years of prior experience in accounting, primarily in the areas of:
  • Cash receipts and deposits
  • Accounts payable and cash disbursements
  • Treasury related functions including wire transfers; bank reconciliations, processing credit card transactions
  • General ledger coding of disbursements and other related journal entries
• Proficiency in MS Outlook and Word
• Intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, functions, text-to-columns VLOOKUP’s)
• Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to details of instructions
• Ability to prioritize and complete deliverables with a high degree of accuracy
• Ability to proactively accept responsibilities from supervisors and work under deadlines
• Knowledge of the Armenian language a plus
• Previous non-profit accounting experience a plus
• Knowledge of Sage/Intacct software helpful
• United States citizenship or residency required
