NEW YORK – Russian intellectual Kim Bakshi was awarded the prestigious Armenian General Benevolent Union Garbis Papazian Prize, joining a long list of non-Armenians who have been recognized for their contribution to Armenian issues.
Bakshi has spent most of his adult years researching and writing about Armenian manuscripts not only in Armenia, but also in other historical Armenian religious centers like the St. Lazar Monastery in Venice and a number of libraries around the world.
In a ceremony in Moscow in October, the prize was presented to Bakshi by Mr. Razmig Tahmasiants-Harutunian during a convention hosted by the Union of Armenians of Russia.
Previous recipients of the Papazian Prize include Dr. Tessa Hoffman of Germany, Baroness Caroline Cox of Britain, Francois Rigaux of Belgium, Nizar Khalili of Syria and many others.
The Prize was established in 1988 and is awarded once a year to a non-Armenian intellectual in recognition of their work on issues involving Armenian history, culture, and other related matters.
Bakshi has been involved in Armenian research, and especially religious manuscripts, since 1964. He is the author of many books on the subject and has recently completed a long television documentary based on his life-long research.
AGBU is the largest Armenian non-profit organization and promotes Armenian heritage around the world. It is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt membership organization.
