On May 6, 2010, Folha de Sao Paulo, South America's most important daily newspaper -- with around two million readers per day -- devoted its entire Tourism section to Armenia. The authors of the published pieces, photographer and writer Cassiana Der Haroutiounian and writer Julienne Gananian, are both active members of AGBU. Folha de Sao Paulo's section on Armenia included photographs and articles covering the country as a destination, and also included historical facts about the Armenian Genocide, the Armenian Apostolic Church, things to do in the country, the national cuisine, and AGBU's continuous -- and successful -- efforts to preserve Armenia's culture and history.
Writer Cassiana Der Haroutiounian recently travelled to Armenia by herself to connect with her Armenian heritage and identity. She works for Folha de Sao Paulo as a photography editor and made the featured piece possible, along with support from her cousin and fellow journalist Julienne Gananian.
Jorge Kevork Der Haroutiounian, former AGBU Brazil Chairman, Honorary AGBU member and the father of Cassiana, was very enthusiastic about the publication. "The reaction was really amazing, not only in Brazil, but also in Argentina, and the Armenian community here was really proud, for the first time, to receive such coverage and be in the spotlight of the Brazilian media," he said in a letter to AGBU. "I hope that, together, we continue to promote our culture and heritage."
