Under the auspices of His Excellency Jivan Tabibian, Armenian Ambassador to Austria, the prestigious AGBU Garbis Papazian Award was awarded to Drs. Helmut and Heide Buschhausen during a special ceremony held on November 27, 2005 at Vienna State University in Austria.
In attendance were honored guests Garbis Papazian, founder of the award; Razmig Tamrazian-Haroutunian, official representative of the AGBU Garbis Papazian Award, and wife Yerchanig; AGBU Vienna Chairman Berg Saraydarian and wife Nora; as well as clergy, friends, and supporters from Austria, Germany and Italy.
Based in Vienna, the husband and wife team join a long list of prominent non-Armenians recognized by AGBU for their significant contributions to Armenian culture. With a combined total of over eight decades worth of knowledge, Helmut and Heide Buschhausen have dedicated their lives and livelihoods to studying, teaching, restoring and preserving Armenian illuminated manuscripts, as well as publishing multiple articles and journals on the topic.
Established in 1988, the annual AGBU Garbis Papazian Award recognizes leading non-Armenian scholars and intellectuals, who through their research, contribute extensively to the preservation and promotion of the Armenian identity and heritage.
