Through an extraordinary display of music and visual effects, the Armenian Mission to the United Nations will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the nation’s membership in the U.N. with a concert at Lincoln Center in New York City on March 16, 2017.
The musical event, described as “A Cultural Adventure: Joyfully Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Armenia Rejoining the Family of Nations,” will feature celebrated Armenian musicians in a performance that bridges the past and the present. The 1 hour-20 minute program, presented without intermission, will revisit traditional Armenian folk and sacred music immersed in contemporary interpretations.
“By highlighting the rich palette of art and culture in our heritage, and featuring modern-day trends, this unique artistic presentation is a most fitting way to celebrate this landmark anniversary,” explained Armenia’s Ambassador to U.N. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan. “As we introduce the extraordinary talent of Armenia both to our own community and to an international audience, our hope is that we will further reinforce our global friendships and leave a lasting impact on our esteemed guests.”
The Ambassador noted that among those in attendance will be high-ranking officials from the United Nations, ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, and distinguished members of the public, all of whom will be sharing in this unique celebration. Students from the metropolitan area are also being invited to attend.
Featured in the performance will be internationally-acclaimed jazz and contemporary musicians, including duduk player Jivan Gasparian, Jr., saxophonist Armen Hyusnunts, cellist Artyom Manukyan, pianist Vahagn Hayrapetyan, pianist Vardan Ovsepian, bassist Joshua Davis, drummer Karen Kocharyan, and the renowned “Hover” State Chamber Choir under choirmaster Sona Hovhanissyan.
To artistically enhance the performance, famed visual artist Karen Mirzoyan, in collaboration with prominent American stage director Eric Hill, has developed images inspired by Armenia’s culture, history and landscapes.
In announcing this 25th anniversary concert, Ambassador Mnatsakanyan also noted two historic milestones: the incredible generosity of Kevork and Sirvart Hovnanian, who secured the beautiful building on East 36th Street in New York City that continues to serve as the Permanent Mission, a physical manifestation of Armenia’s membership in the Family of Nations; and the moment when community leader and philanthropist Nazar Nazarian proudly raised the Armenian flag at the United Nations for the first time, a flag that continues to fly decisively and bring pride to every Armenian around the world.
Tickets may be purchased in person or by phone through the Lincoln Center Box Office at 212 721-6500, or for an additional service fee, online at http://www.lincolncenter.org/show/joyfully-celebrating-the-25th-anniversary-of-armenia-in-the-united-nations
